MARKING PERIOD 4 REFLECTION
5/08/2010
This year has been revolutionary to say the least. Senior year has truly changed me. I am glad to say that I can begin to figure out who I am, as the years before have only been puzzles of identities. It’s as much frightening as it is exhilarating to see this year come to a close with the art show, yet I am glad to see my final pieces come together. These year long studies reflect my true interests and passions. I had started out with little anatomical sketches yet only to have them transform into large surrealistic bodies dancing in blacklights. Making this change in art was nerve-racking; and to be honest, I was even a little apprehensive about the topic. I kept thinking,
“Who in their right minds would choose to draw bodies for display, let alone dissection pieces?”
“What would people say?”
But now I can answer this. I would choose to draw these pieces because I do not see them as bodies, I see them as sculptures of life, working together to form emotion, actions, and art in this case. They represent society, the layers to ones personality, life, and culture. They represent how one can change from one thing into something completely unexpected. I thought this was especially significant going through senior year as well, for where I am now is never where I could have ever imagined myself. This year has been a whirlwind, and the one thing I do not regret was taking portfolio art. It kept my thoughts straight and my passions alive when things got difficult. It made my good days even better and has given me a feeling of satisfaction when I look upon my panels to see what I have created. This is my expression, these are my thoughts; and I do not regret them for one minute.
MARKING PERIOD 3
Portfolio Self Assessment
This marking period I felt I was very productive and innovative. For these reasons I believe I deserve an A. I have produced more work than I originally set out to do, and wasted no time in class. I worked really hard making sure my pieces were unique as well as well thought out, and I achieved this goal. Not only am I well on my way to creating an interesting display for the art show, I hope to really make a statement with my current pieces and pieces that are in the making. This marking period I have also stepped out of the box by collaborating with Emma Decker. We have begun a series of pieces which embody the layers of personality within individuals.
